RUFC v Leyton Orient

On Tuesday the 4th of March, Rotherham United F.C. and Rotherham United Community Trust were excited to dedicate the match theme to International Women’s Day. This allowed the club and community to get together and celebrate the amazing women within our town.

Taken from the Rotherham United website, they said “Rotherham United are proud to be using the platform provided to us by International Women’s Day 2025 to officially launch our newly-established Women Supporters’ Group.”

“We recognise that whilst football has come a long way in terms of inclusivity in the last decade, work in the space is not complete and we will continue to strive to ensure that everyone feels not only safe, but valued as part of the Rotherham United ‘experience’ – be it on a matchday or through the week.”

“Our latest efforts focus on ensuring that our ever growing female fanbase enjoy an experience that ticks all of those boxes, whilst also looking to use the football club’s profile to support the growth of a group which will create a welcoming environment and an opportunity to form new social circles within the fanbase for female supporters.”

“The Women Supporters’ Group has been established for everyone. Whether you are a female fan setting out on her journey of watching the Millers or someone who has followed the club home and away across a number of years, everybody is welcome.”

The Community Trust were also honoured to invite down their Girls Emerging Talent Centre participant’s to the match! On the back of their return from Scotland, the Girls ETC teams were all invited to take part in the match with flag bearing, centre circle, and as well as some girls making up the all-female Ball Retrieval team!

We will once again be proudly welcoming our new cheer troop the Trailblazer Allstars who will entertain supporters with their dance routines prior to the match action.

Rotherham United Women F.C.

Joining us on the matchday was also Rotherham United Women F.C., including their first team and Under 21’s! Rotherham United Women currently sit third in the league – just two points off top spot – after clocking up six wins in a row. Rotherham United Women are the division’s top scorers, averaging well over three goals per game, and have won 10 out of 12 games since new manager Adam Rawlings took the reins.

This coming Sunday (9th March 2025), they travel to Leicestershire for a League Cup semi-final against Ashfordby Amateurs. You’re sure of an exciting match if you come along to Roundwood for their next league fixture on the 16th March – and remember admission is free for kids.

Rotherham United Community Trust is proud to support Rotherham United Women F.C., they are key ambassadors for women and girls in sport across our town – most recently attending the Rotherham School Games “Let Girls Play” event held at Wath Academy. On Tuesday (4th March 2025), the Rotherham School Games Team in collaboration with the Wath Academy Football Scholarship staff delivered their annual #LetGirlsPlay day, which involved a morning and an afternoon session for girls in Year 3. The event has been designed as ‘inspire & engage’ with an emphasis on participation and engagement, aiming to give the participants a positive experience to hopefully inspire them to continue exploring football in the future.

We can’t thank Rotherham United Women F.C. for their continued commitment to the community, and inspiring the younger generation!
