Social Prescribing
We are committed to working with local organisations to provide practical and emotional support to those who need it. One service that allows us to do this is Social Prescribing, through which we support individuals on a 1:1 basis to improve their confidence and overall wellbeing.
Our staff aim to make referrals feels as comfortable as possible by taking a person-centred approach, with support offered dependent on the individual.

What we do
When we receive a Social Prescribing referral, our first step is to make contact to arrange a date and time to meet. We suggest meeting for a walk, in a neutral café in Rotherham, or at another convenient and comfortable location.
During the session we discuss any barriers before making small steps to get people where they want to be.

PROJECTS
- Coffee Mornings: Our coffee mornings offer a friendly, relaxed environment for a hot drink and a chat, and for some light activity like boccia or table tennis. It also allows people to socialise and meet new people, all of which encourage positive mental health. For some, this session is just an opportunity to get out of the house to a different environment – there’s no pressure in this open session, facilitated by our welcoming staff.
- Walking Group: Being active in the outdoors is a great way to produce serotonin, which increases happy thoughts in our brains. There are so many benefits to being surrounded by fresh air, including reducing stress, improving mood, and helping to relax and sleep at night. Our weekly walking group is a great opportunity to get outdoors, and also allows people to socialise, improve their fitness and experience new places.
The walks are planned and led by our staff, who ensure the routes are safe and accessible to all involved. Transport can be provided from New York Stadium, free of charge.
