Youth Work

Young people are the future; we therefore aim to empower them with the relevant skills and experience to develop into valued members of the community. Youth voice influences our youth activities and projects, ensuring we are engaging in a relatable and beneficial way.

We also encourage social mixing between the young people we work with, further educating them and ultimately strengthening the youth community.

What we do

We host a range of youth provisions for 8 – 18 year olds (up to 25 for young people with SEND). All of our sessions have a purpose, whether it’s for fun and socialisation, or to educate and develop skillset. Our experienced youth workers support young people to reach their own goals (as defined by them).

We also encourage young people to give back to their community in the form of social action projects, which is another learning curve, also developing their work experience and employability skills.

PROJECTS

  • Smiles for Miles: We take on board youth preferences to tailor the sport and physical activities we deliver to young people within our Smiles for Miles project. We focus on early intervention and improving spaces and places that matter to communities. Other members of the Smiles for Miles Consortium include; RUCT, YWCA, Endeavour, Clifton Learning Partnership, ROAR, Rotherham Parents Carers Forum, Rotherham and Barnsley MIND, Rush House, Grow and Jade Youth and Community.
  • Universal Youth Work: The Millers Youth Hub sessions provide engagement opportunities for young people aged 10 – 17 to attend weekly provision at open access facilities around Rotherham. Each session allows participants to be involved in physical sporting activities, gaming, pool, board games, arts and crafts and lots of other youth engagement opportunities to help support young people’s developments away from school. Current locations for these sessions are; Parkgate, New York Stadium, Swinton Lock and The Chislet Centre.
  • Detached Youth Work: Through a variety of funded projects, we deliver open access detached youth work sessions in and around multiple communities within Rotherham. Detached youth work allows us to deliver safe pop up engagement sessions within communities. Activities include one off sporting activities, access to our youth van, on street educational discussions and workshops, and community voice and influence conversations. Having the community and their voice at the forefront of our delivery allows us to combat community tension and local Anti-social Behaviour (ASB).
  • Premier League Kicks: We offer a wide range of free football sessions with an overall aim to reduce the risk of anti-social behaviour within our community. We provide young people with a safe space to unlock their sporting potential and improving their health and well-being contributing to a stronger and safer community for all. These provisions are aimed at young people aged 8 – 18 within ASB hot spot areas across Rotherham.
