Football Development

Led and delivered by highly qualified coaches, our football development programme is designed to get the best out of all young people, developing their skills and confidence. Our sessions are focussed on more than just football, as we look to grow participants into responsible, mature and trustworthy members of society.

Our coaches recognise potential and can signpost players down the right avenue to continue their footballing journeys, and our expertise and links within the footballing world allow us to divert children who are performing well into performance pathways.

What we do

Our pathways start at the age of 18 months, where coaches work on fundamental skills including coordination, agility and balance.

Sessions then progress through the ages leading to open age training and matches, with each age group learning relevant skills and tactical aspects behind the game.

PROJECTS

  • Mini Millers: Out fun-filled introductory football programme is for children aged 18 months – 5 years of age, and is the first step in our football development pathway. These sessions focus on developing motor skills, basic football skills and social skills, whilst linking activities to educational outcomes such as learning colours, numbers, letters and shapes.
  • Future Stars: These sessions are aimed at children aged 5 – 14 years old, and follow on from our Mini Millers programme. We focus on ball mastery skills through fun, technical sessions and small sided games. We work alongside RUFC Academy to progress children onto their next steps in their football journey.
  • Boys Emerging Talent Centre (ETC): The boys Emerging Talent Centre is our pay to play development centre. Our aim is to coach the best out of the players with a view of progressing them onto the RUFC Academy. We deliver a comprehensive coaching programme, with players attending two football and one futsal training sessions per month, and taking part in regular fixtures against other ETCs and RUFC academy. We work closely with players to communicate their progress within three yearly reviews.
