Students at Rotherham United Sports College are set to benefit from a new Morning Social initiative thanks to a partnership with FareShare Yorkshire, helping to ensure that young people have access to a nutritious start to their day.
With many families continuing to feel the impact of the ongoing cost of living challenges, the college recognises that not every student is fortunate enough to arrive each morning having enjoyed a healthy breakfast. Through this new partnership, students will have access to a range of food and refreshments designed to help them begin the day energised, focused and ready to learn.
The Morning Social provides more than just food. It creates an opportunity for students to come together in a welcoming environment before lessons begin, encouraging positive social interaction and helping to support overall wellbeing.
We understand the important link between nutrition, concentration and academic performance. By working alongside FareShare Yorkshire, the initiative aims to remove some of the barriers that can affect young people’s ability to engage fully with their education and training.
John Whitehead, Head of Education & Employability, Rotherham United Community Trust:
“We are delighted to be working with FareShare Yorkshire to introduce our Morning Social. At Rotherham United Community Trust, we are committed to removing barriers that may prevent young people from achieving their full potential. We recognise that the ongoing cost of living crisis continues to place significant pressures on individuals and families, and unfortunately this can impact something as fundamental as having access to a nutritious breakfast. Through our partnership with FareShare Yorkshire, the Morning Social will provide students with a welcoming space where they can enjoy food, connect with their peers and start the day positively. We know that good nutrition plays an important role in wellbeing, concentration and learning, and we are proud to be introducing an initiative that supports our students both inside and outside the classroom.”
The college remains committed to supporting the health, wellbeing and development of all students, and the Morning Social is another example of how we try to continue to respond to the needs of its learners and local community.
Through the support of FareShare Yorkshire, Rotherham United Sports College hopes to make a positive difference every morning, ensuring that students can start the day with confidence, connection and the nutrition they need to thrive.
Jonathan Williams, Chief Executive Officer of FareShare Yorkshire:
“We are really proud to support the excellent work of the Rotherham United Community Trust team. We’ve had the pleasure of partnering with the team during school holiday periods over the last 3 years and this new initiative is a wonderful continuation of that care into term time. Quality surplus food that we rescue from the supply chain will be delivered to Rotherham United Community Trust each week by our wonderful volunteers, who passionately redistribute 115,000 meals worth of food each week across Yorkshire.”
