At Rotherham United Community Trust (RUCT), we see every day how life‑changing opportunities can be when young people are given access to the right environment, the right support, and the right belief. Thanks to the longstanding commitment of AESSEAL, we’ve been able to expand those opportunities through our Sports College, which now supports hundreds of young people across Rotherham.
AESSEAL’s funding contributes towards the cost of the building that houses our college. This support has allowed us to focus our resources on delivering high‑quality education, hands‑on training and clear progression pathways, ensuring local students gain the academic foundations, practical experience and confidence they need to thrive.
Our Sports College, delivered in partnership with the University of South Wales, enables learners to progress from Level 3 BTECs to degree‑level study, all within a supportive professional sporting environment. Beyond qualifications, students gain real‑world experience across our organisation through volunteering, mentoring, and paid employment, helping them transition smoothly into the workforce.
Success Stories That Inspire Our Organisation
We’re incredibly proud of the young people who have come through our programmes, many of whom are now contributing directly to our work and the wider community:
- Alfie Bakes joined us in 2020 and has gone from a student to a full‑time sports tutor after completing his degree in Sports Coaching and Development. His progression included international football trips, volunteering, and evening work that strengthened both his skills and confidence.
- Hannah Jones has become an important figure in our female development programmes. After two years of volunteering across education, health and inclusion projects, she now works as an assistant coach and plans to complete her PGCE to teach sport.
- Bailey Finney began as a participant in our football camps, progressed through the college, and, through mentoring and volunteering, secured a permanent coaching role within RUCT.
These stories highlight why AESSEAL’s support is so important. Their investment translates directly into real jobs, real skills and real futures, with many young people choosing to stay in Rotherham to build their careers.
Our Commitment to the Community
As our CEO, Dan Wilson, puts it:
“AESSEAL’s commitment allows us to provide opportunities that change lives. The Sports College is a hub for personal growth, career development and community engagement, helping to grow the local economy.”
We’re grateful not only for AESSEAL’s support, but also for their recognition of the value our work brings to Rotherham. Their belief in our mission encourages more young people to pursue paths they didn’t know were possible.
AESSEAL communications manager Andrew Mosley said:
“It is always good to hear about the positive effect our support can have on the wider community.
“The work that the Sports College carries out benefits youngsters, gets them involved in careers they may not have thought possible, encourages them to stay in the area, and as a result benefits the local economy and Rotherham as a whole.
“We are always delighted to hear about success stories such as Alfie, Hannah and Bailey.”
A Call to Local Businesses
AESSEAL’s partnership represents a wider opportunity for local businesses to make a meaningful impact. By supporting our health, inclusion, community, and education programmes, businesses across Rotherham can help shape the future workforce, unlock talent, and improve outcomes for local people.
Together, we can continue strengthening our community, one opportunity at a time.
