Rotherham United’s Girls Emerging Talent Centre (ETC) recently embarked on an unforgettable three-day football tour to Scotland, marking an incredible opportunity for young female players to develop their skills, experience new challenges, and embrace the spirit of International Women’s Day 2025.

The tour not only provided valuable match experience against high-quality opposition but also reinforced Rotherham United Community Trust’s commitment to growing the women’s game as part of the Her Game Too movement.

Day 1: Arrival and First Matches in Scotland

Excitement was high as the U12, U14, and U16 squads gathered at the New York Stadium before setting off for Scotland. Their first stop was Glasgow, where they faced Hamilton Academical Women and Girls Football Club in a competitive set of fixtures.

These matches provided an early test for the young Millers, allowing them to showcase their ability and adaptability against strong Scottish opposition. Despite the long journey, the teams put in impressive performances, demonstrating their technical skills, teamwork, and resilience.

Day 2: Inspiration at Rangers F.C. and Evening Fixtures Against Kilmarnock

The second day of the tour was about more than just football—it was about inspiration and empowerment. The players were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Rangers F.C.’s iconic stadium, walking in the footsteps of some of the biggest names in the game. This experience provided a valuable insight into the world of professional football, further fuelling the players’ ambitions.

Following a team-building afternoon of bowling, the teams returned to the pitch in the evening, taking on Kilmarnock F.C. Girls. The matches were another opportunity to learn and improve, with every player embracing the challenge and growing in confidence.

Day 3: A Final Challenge Before Heading Home

Before heading back to Rotherham, the teams had one final test, facing AFC Workington on the journey home. The matches wrapped up an incredible experience, with the players showcasing everything they had learned across the tour. It was a perfect way to round off three days of football, team bonding, and personal growth.

Accelerating Action for Women in Football

This tour highlighted Rotherham United Community Trust’s commitment to providing opportunities for young female footballers and supporting the Her Game Too campaign. With International Women’s Day 2025 carrying the theme ‘Accelerate Action’, this trip demonstrated how real change is happening—giving girls the platform to develop, compete, and thrive in the sport they love.

From match experiences to professional club visits, the tour was a huge step forward in inspiring the next generation of female footballers. By investing in the growth of the women’s game, Rotherham United Community Trust continues to play a vital role in ensuring football is a sport for everyone.

A huge thank you to all staff, parents, and players who made this trip possible—we can’t wait to see what the future holds for our talented ETC squads!
