On Friday, 15th November, we hosted our annual Premier League Girls Cup tournament at Sheffield Hallam Sports Park, bringing together 22 schools and 176 talented Year 5 and 6 girls for an unforgettable day of football. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for the players to connect, showcase their footballing skills, and compete for the chance to represent Rotherham United in next year’s regional finals.

After an exciting day of action, Listerdale Primary emerged as the champions, finishing the tournament with an impressive 100% win record.

The group stages were fiercely contested, with only the top eight teams advancing to the quarter-finals. One of the standout moments came from Trinity Croft Primary, who secured a dramatic 4-0 victory in their final group match to leap from fifth to second place and progress to the next stage.

As the competition heated up, the semi-finals delivered thrilling encounters. Listerdale Academy edged out their opponents with a 2-1 win, while Wath Church of England Primary secured their spot in the final with a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

The final match was a showcase of determination, skill, and sportsmanship. Despite a remarkable performance from the Wath Church of England goalkeeper, Listerdale proved too strong, clinching the trophy with a 4-1 victory.

We extend a huge thank you and well done to all the players and teachers who participated, making the tournament a resounding success. Congratulations to Listerdale Primary, and we wish them the best of luck in the regional finals next year!
