As part of the EFL Week of Action, Rotherham United Community Trust (RUCT) is proud to highlight the progression of Owen Kelly, who has been appointed as our new Football Development Coordinator.

Owen’s journey is a shining example of the pathways and opportunities available through the Trust. Having attended Future Stars Holiday Camps at Wickersley School from a child, to then being enrolled in the Sports Coaching & Development Degree programme delivered in partnership with the University of South Wales, Owen has combined academic excellence with hands-on experience gained through his involvement with the Trust.

Over the past three years, Owen has not only excelled in his studies but has also made a significant impact within RUCT, demonstrating outstanding dedication, leadership, and passion for football development. His new role will see him overseeing and expanding the Trust’s football programmes, helping to inspire the next generation of players, coaches, and community leaders.

James Mahoney, Education Manager at RUCT, praised Owen’s achievement:
“We are incredibly proud to see Owen transition from our Sports Coaching & Development Degree into full-time employment with us. Over the past three years, he has demonstrated exceptional dedication and enthusiasm and fully deserves this opportunity. He is a fantastic role model for our current students and this achievement highlights the potential opportunities that our Sports College provides.”

Owen’s appointment reflects the Trust’s commitment to nurturing talent and supporting personal and professional growth. It also emphasizes the value of the unique partnership with the University of South Wales, which enables students to earn a degree while gaining practical experience in a professional football environment.

We congratulate Owen on his well-earned new role and look forward to seeing the positive impact he will undoubtedly have on football development within our community.
