Millers team up with Fair Shot

Today, a group of competition-winning Rotherham United fans have taken part in a football session and 5-a-side match at the club’s training facilities with Fair Shot FC, a squad of refugees and people seeking asylum.

Fair Shot, supported by the Refugee Council and Comic Relief, is a football movement uniting fans across the country towards a goal of fairness and compassion for all.

As fans, we may come from all walks of life, but we all share a passion for the beautiful game. In today’s session at the Mighty Millers’ own Parkgate Astro, fans and Fair Shot FC got to share this passion on the pitch, creating connections that highlight how within the football community and beyond there is far more that unites than divides.

We are proud to be part of Fair Shot as the first of a series of clubs from across the English leagues visited by Fair Shot FC, including Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday.

Keep an eye out on the club’s social media channels over the next few weeks to find out how the fans got on with Fair Shot FC today!

Fair Shot FC

Fair Shot FC is a football squad made up of players from Afghanistan, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Namibia, Senegal, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Syria and The Gambia who have fled to the UK due to war and/or persecution in their home countries. They have come together through their shared love of football, the common language it provides and the positive impact playing it has on their lives.

Celebrating Rotherham United’s community work

Rotherham United Community Trust (RUCT) brings people together on and off the pitch giving them a sense of connection and belonging. Through the ‘United for Communities Football’ (U4C) project, local refugees and people seeking asylum have the opportunity to engage in competitive football while finding a sense of belonging within their Rotherham community.

Fair Shot is celebrating the club’s work in the community by highlighting projects like U4C, which demonstrate how football can be a powerful force for good.

FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT | Successful Future Stars Relaunch Event Draws Over 350 Attendees at the New York Stadium

The highly anticipated relaunch of the Future Stars programme took place on the 14th of October at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, drawing an impressive crowd of over 350 attendees! The event was a huge success as participants and their families gathered to learn more about the exciting offerings within the programme.

We delivered a comprehensive presentation during the evening and attendees had the opportunity to meet the team and gain insights into their vision for the programme’s future as well as other members of the Community Trust.

The event also showcased the Boys Emerging Talent Centre, one of the many initiatives under the Future Stars banner. Whether newcomers or current participants, everyone in attendance had the chance to ask questions and explore how the programme could help them achieve their football ambitions.

A special moment during the event was the celebration of some of the programme’s standout players, who were honoured as part of the Future Stars’ “Hall of Fame.” These individuals have made exceptional progress through the programme, with some now being part of the RUFC Academy and serve as an inspiration to the next generation of participants.

After the main presentation, attendees were invited to engage with the staff, ask further questions, and take photos around the stadium. The turnout and enthusiasm from the community is an example of how impactful the Future Stars programme has become and created further excitement for continued growth and success.
