On the 10th of September every year, Rotherham United Community Trust supports World Suicide Prevention Day. The theme this year is #StartTheConversation.
What is suicide prevention?
Suicide prevention starts with recognising the warning signs and taking them seriously. If you think a friend or family member is considering suicide, there’s plenty you can do to help save a life. We must all learn how to look out for one another and do our bit to help those in distress.
The health and wellbeing department here at RUCT host daily sessions open to those suffering with mental health conditions, those wanting to get out more and make new friends, as well as those looking to keep active. Physical activity is not only good for your body, but it’s also great for your mind. Being active releases chemicals in your brain that make you feel good – boosting your self-esteem and helping you concentrate as well as sleep well and feel better.
No matter age, ability, gender, ethnicity, our sessions are open access to all. We host various sessions across Rotherham, so no matter where you are you can join us with some of our sessions being completely free.
Introducing Matt. Matt started attending our sessions during his struggles with his physical and mental health, listen to his story and the impact our sessions have had on his life.
Please see the Suicide Prevention section on the RotherHive website, that offers great information on suicide prevention. As well as listing various local and national services that are there to support people with mental health issues, or to help you when may have concerns about someone you know and their mental health.
