Running for a Miller: Honouring Paul-Martin Webb’s Legacy Through the London Marathon

Paul-Martin Webb, was a proud Yorkshireman all his life, despite growing up down south in Kent. Rotherham United F.C. was part of his DNA. I am Elliott Webb, his son, he loved nothing more than packing up the car and making the long journey up the M1 to watch a Millers game, bringing my grandad, mum, brothers and myself along with him. It was an annual pilgrimage and an integral part of our upbringing. His connections with the club run deep, with Uncle Billy and cousin Howard always joining us on match days. From the first match at the New York Stadium, to Play Off finals at Wembley, boisterous games at Gillingham, to cup ties at Milmoor, he loved everything about this club. In fact, one of the last memories that I have with him before things took a turn, was the away match at Gillingham in 2022 when we secured promotion back into the Championship.

Dad was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma in September 2022. He underwent surgery to remove the sarcoma and faced a tough recovery. However, on December 23rd we received a phone call from the hospital saying that the surgery and treatment were not 100% successful and that the cancer had spread. After being readmitted to hospital in January, Dad lost his battle with cancer and passed away on the 6th March 2023.
I am running the London Marathon 2025 for Sarcoma UK in honour of my Dad. I believe there’s no better event to run to raise awareness of my dad’s story and the charity that supported us all in order to help others who may be affected by this little known variation of cancer.

2025 Club Appeal Set to Raise Vital Funds for Community Projects
Rotherham United Community Trust (RUCT) are excited to announce the launch of the ‘2025 Club’, an initiative designed to secure social value investment from local businesses, aiming to enhance the community impact of the Trust. This strategic move seeks to build robust partnerships with local businesses, creating long-term relationships that will benefit Rotherham through targeted community programmes.
A century old in 2025, Rotherham United continues to play a huge part in the local community. The Community Trust has existed as a charity since 2007 and now delivers more than 100 projects every week across the town.
The 2025 club offers businesses the chance to support the Trust to do more. We are aiming to raise £100,000 in the 100th year of Rotherham United to help us continue to create healthy, happy, and active communities where you are.
For those who are willing and eager to get involved, they can receive various exciting opportunities and benefits of being a member of the 2025 Club. From hospitality tickets on match days, a signed shirt and ball, to promotion for your business across all RUFC/RUCT social media, and much more.

But how would RUCT spend the money that your business invests? They have broken down per department how much different sessions cost to run over a year; like their dementia groups, mental health coffee mornings, SEND football sessions, kids holiday camps, all these sessions are just the tip of the iceberg. A donation of £4000 could make one of these sessions completely accessible and free for anyone to attend, to provide resources and equipment, cover staffing and venue costs, as well as much more.
