On Thursday, May 16th, Rotherham United Community Trust’s Girls Emerging Talent Centre (ETC) groups experienced an evening to remember as they took to the pitch at the AESSEAL New York Stadium. This special event was not just about football; it was a celebration of talent, community, and joy, with family and friends in attendance to cheer on the young stars.

Throughout the season the Girls ETC players have showcased their skills in a series of matches on the turf of the New York Stadium, supporting the Rotherham United first team in many occasions and being part of the Rotherham United Women F.C. #HerGameToo Cup game. The #PlayOnThePitch2024 event was a fantastic opportunity for the girls to experience playing in a professional setting, boosting their confidence and inspiring their future football aspirations. The stands were filled with proud parents, siblings, and friends who came to support and celebrate the girls’ hard work and dedication.

After the session, the celebrations continued with a lively Macarena dance party on the pitch. Players, families, and friends joined in the fun, creating a fun and infectious atmosphere. The Macarena dance-off was just one of the highlights of the day, bringing smiles and laughter to everyone involved. This joyous moment underscored the importance of community and togetherness that the Rotherham United Community Trust strives to promote.

Rotherham United Community Trust is committed to encouraging the growth and development of young female footballers. The Emerging Talent Centre provides a platform for girls to hone their skills in a supportive and high-quality training environment. Events like this not only celebrate their progress but also encourage more girls to take up the sport and pursue their dreams.

Ashley Donovan, Football Development Coordinator, said “The experience for the players in the ETC to train on the pitch is a excellent. It was a bit of fun family event with parents, grandparents, siblings and other family members coming to support and watch them play. With the music playing, we encouraged the girls to celebrate any goals that their team scored and try to recreate celebrations that their role models do on TV. We would love for the girls, in the future to play every game in stadiums like this, be it for Rotherham United Women or another club”
