On Monday the 8th of April, Rotherham United Community Trust welcomed The Albion Foundation to the AESSEAL New York Stadium and they embarked upon their ‘Baggies Cycle Challenge’ 2024. Every year The Albion Foundation cycle from one stadium within the same league as their team, West Bromwich Albion, back to The Hawthorns stadium. This year, they selected the New York Stadium as their starting point.

The Baggies Bike Challenge is now in its tenth year, and the aim of the challenge is to help raise funds for the Foundation as they continue their award-winning work in the community.

As the cyclists met with Madeline Dyson, Marketing and Communications Coordinator for Rotherham United Community Trust, on Monday morning the buzz in the air from the Foundation team was electric. The 160 mile journey they were about to take on was highlighted not only from the Trust, but also from Rotherham United who’s media team shared their challenge on social media to encourage Rotherham fans to support the West Bromwich staff.

Madeline said, “It was truly an honour to be part of this endeavour with The Albion Foundation. Here at RUCT, we pride ourselves on putting Rotherham United F.C. in the heart of the community, and this is a testament to that. By building collaborations like this with other clubs, only opens the door to more opportunity, and this is hopefully just the start of a strong relationship between ourselves and The Albion Foundation”.

After cycling 160 miles over 3 days, the Albion cycling team arrived back in their home town ready for West Bromwich Albion v Rotherham United. Some of the RUCT team attended the game to congratulate the cyclists, and clap them as they did a lap of honour at half-time.

Rotherham United F.C. and Rotherham United Community Trust would once again like to celebrate the achievements of the Albion Foundation and the ‘Baggies Cycle Challenge’, what an inspiring team and we look forward to future collaborative work.
