Harry, 8, and Ethan, 8, have been part of our Future Stars programme and have progressed from strength to strength. Despite taking different pathways, both of the boys have now signed for the U9’s RUFC academy for the next season.
Harry started our Future Stars programme aged five after attending one of our open sessions and since then he has continued to develop his skills. He was invited into our development squad for the U7’s.
Harry attended sessions with the Future Star squad twice a week, as well as playing for our partner club, Maltby Juniors.
He was then further invited in by RUFC to train with the pre-academy group. With every step he has maintained his progression and worked hard, and as an outcome of this was offered a contract with RUFC at the end of 2022.
Harry’s Mum, Ria, spoke to us and said: “We found Future Stars absolutely amazing, without Harry being a part of it, we don’t believe he’d be the way he is today. In Harry’s two years at Future Stars it has been faultless and he has made special friendships with members of staff as well as the other kids, he was a shy little boy and through this journey he has become a confident young boy who loves playing football. Thank you doesn’t even cover how grateful we are.”
Ethan came to his first Future Stars open session this year, and immediately impressed the team. After his first session he was invited to come into our Future Stars squad, where he was then approached about the RUFC pre-academy.
After a whirlwind of a journey and an incredible display of talent, Ethan has been also offered a contract to sign for RUFC.
Dave Atkinson, the Foundation Phase Lead, said: “We are really pleased to be able to offer Future Stars players Harry and Ethan a contract with Rotherham United. Both players have shown good ability on the pitch in training and games, but also conduct themselves well off the pitch. An important part of playing at the academy is how to represent the badge, which both boys do very well.
“It’s great to welcome the boys into the academy and continue their journeys with Rotherham United. Future Stars continues to be an excellent recruitment tool for the academy for local, talented players for which we thank Ash and all the staff for their hard work.”
Ash Donovan, Football Development Officer, said: “Both Ethan and Harry show huge potential for their football journey. It’s a pleasure that myself and the team can be a part of their journey and see how Future Stars helped them develop their skills and continue to support them.”
