We’ve got a really busy Christmas coming up this year and are delighted to be supporting our community through a range of initiatives.
Every Miller Matters:
We have set up 6 new sessions across the week, both at our Gola Zone facility here at New York Stadium and at Parkgate Astro. No entrance fee specified just pay what you can, and its’s fine if that is nothing, and come use our facilities. Maybe you need a meeting space, want to meet a friend for a coffee, need to come and get warm, want to come and watch the world cup highlights or would love to have a kick about with your kids at the astro, we’d love to see you.
Community Programme Manager Jonny Allan, who has been a driving force behind the founding of the project said:
“I can’t stress enough how strongly we feel like our role at Rotherham United extends well beyond just being a place where people come to watch football matches.
“I don’t think there is anyone who hasn’t felt the financial pinch of the last few years, whether that be during the coronavirus pandemic or more recently as costs have started to rise across the board.
“Across the club and the trust, we felt like we had to take action to try and help out and the ‘Every Miller Matters’ campaign encapsulates all the ways in which we thought we could alleviate some of that pressure.
“We have already hosted a couple of sessions and it has been really eye-opening to speak to people and understand just how hard certain individuals have been hit.
“We believe there are more people out there who could benefit from what we are offering at AESSEAL New York Stadium and I would implore those individuals or families to come down and see us. There is absolutely no judgement. This is a safe space for a coffee, a chat and a bit of charge for your phone.
“The message is in the project title, ‘Every Miller Matters’ and we want to make sure that people know that.”
The 1st team fixture against Bristol City on Saturday 10th December gives us another opportunity to ask our generous supporters to help us with donations for local food banks, we will once again be collecting outside the fanzone where there will also be a Santa’s grotto before kick-off.
Our clothing bank, we are inviting people to bring in sports kit, trainers, boots, shin pads, goalie gloves that are too small or no longer used and are in good, useable condition, so that we can help families with the cost of sport by providing a swap service. We are also partnering with other local charities such as Shilo and Rotherham Hospital Trust to request donations of warm winter coats.
Any donations can be dropped off at the Red and White shop or the Goal Zone in the lead up to the Bristol City match as well as at the Fan Zone on match day from 10:30am
